Networks Compliance & Networks Discovery
Networks Compliance
Threepwood are Leaders in Network Planning and Network Standards Compliance.
We have worked closely with network operators on problem solving their electricity network decisions. Our portfolio of projects in recent years has encompassed the reviewing to compliance to national standards, establishing the UK/Ireland common approach is (where standards aren’t clear), and interpretation and clarification of network standards requirements.
Threepwood consultants support a number of key DCODE working groups: EREC P2, EREC P28, EREC P29, EREC G5. We have also assisted in the development and revision of numerous key standards covering network related requirements.
Threepwood is particularly known for network compliance of low carbon technology connections (on the HV and LV networks). Threepwood manage the compliance assessment of LCTs (heat pumps, EV charge points, PV) for the UK and Ireland – click here to find out more.
The particular topics that Threepwood can support on for Networks Compliance include:
- HV and LV planning theory
- Network Security and supporting socio-economic analysis
- Technical analysis and assessment of LCT equipment
- Power Quality standards understanding (G5, P28, P29)
- Modelling network complexities
- Benchmarking and industry good practice
- Cost Benefit Analysis

Networks Discovery
Threepwood delivery innovation and research projects which have the key objectives of – analyzing and re-defining how networks are assessed.
These projects look to establish or challenge whether long standing network ‘standards’ remain valid for the future. For example, we have undertaken a project to determine if the assumptions in ENA EREC G5 for harmonic aggregation (how harmonic voltages from multiple devices summate) are correct. We are also involved in project to research how equipment (e.g. switchgear) testing may have to change to ensure it is fit-for-purpose for future power networks.
The particular topics that Threepwood can support on for Networks Discovery include:
- Evidence-based decision making for network assessment and planning
- Development and Technical evolution of network standards
- Development of models for converter and inverter equipment
- Data collation and analysis to support network policy decisions
- Testing and analysing power quality performance of new technologies
