Helping to Improve the Performance of Electricity Networks

Consultant

Syed Irtiza Maksud is a Consultant at Threepwood Consulting, having joined in June 2025. He brings over a decade of UK and international experience in power system operations, commissioning, maintenance, design, and technical studies. His expertise spans high-voltage electrical infrastructure installation, power system modelling, and operational engineering support for utility-scale generation and grid-connected systems.

Syed began his career as a Junior Engineer with one of the oldest and most renowned consultancy firms in Bangladesh, progressing to Design Engineer, where he authored technical studies and developed detailed power system models and schematic diagrams. He later joined Aggreko International Power Projects as an Assistant Electrical Engineer, eventually advancing to Senior Electrical Engineer. At Aggreko, he led commissioning activities for 230 kV, 132 kV, and 11 kV substations, generators, and power transformers, and was subsequently responsible for the operation and maintenance of multiple generation sites totalling up to 200 MW. His role included HV competent person authorisation, management of safety documentation, and failure investigations including root cause analysis, Kaizen, and FMEA. He also supported maintenance and operational oversight of auxiliary systems, including fuel handling and oil tank management. His additional responsibilities included mentoring and training of contractors, and he implemented health, safety, and environmental procedures in line with statutory requirements.

He later undertook a research role at the University of Warwick, focusing on the cyber resilience of power networks and the role of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in supporting grid stability in Great Britain.
